Our life right now can be summed up in one word: NEW!
The biggest news is we are expecting a NEW BABY BOY due on May 8. We are very excited to welcome another child into our family and Becca couldn't be more thrilled that he will even things out for us (2 girls, 2 boys). And Aaron's blue, sparkly toe nails are a testament to the fact he needs a brother! :) Becca is grateful to finally feel better from the morning sickness (evening sickness in her case). It never got horrible but it lasted until 24 weeks which was a trial of patience! Now we enjoy the next few weeks until the belly gets so big she can't move. :)
Brett will start his NEW JOB in a few days. The CEO at his previous company decided to get ready to sell the company and brought in new management in the fall who completely changed the culture of the company. Brett really enjoyed helping nonprofit organizations help others more effectively, but the new manager felt the nonprofits weren't profitable enough and wanted to move into other sectors. Although Brett feels he did the right thing in walking away, he misses his coworkers a lot (and the amount of time he spent on the phone with his coworkers after leaving tells me they miss him a lot too!) He is excited to join a new, very small company and offer his analysis and management skills as they expand. The 7 minute commute is also a huge perk after fighting construction on a 45+ minute commute for 6 years. No more 6 am mornings!
Becca will receive a NEW CALLING on Jan 31 after serving for almost 2 years as the Relief Society President. Her entire presidency was pregnant at one point, and it's been an interesting past month with both of her counselors having babies just a few weeks apart. The bishopric felt it was time for a change. :) She has very mixed emotions about the change. It will be great to have more time at home with the kids, but it has been an amazing experience to help the women and families in our ward and witness positive changes in others' lives. She will now be in charge of Activity Days for the 8-11 year old girls (including Ember!). It will be fun to be involved with the children again. :) Brett will also receive a new calling as the 1st counselor in the Elders Quorum. (I guess one of us must be busy at church!) Becca stays busy volunteering in the girls' classrooms and taking her turn teaching Aaron's neighborhood co-op preschool and enjoys the opportunity to teach again.
Ember (8) LOVES her third grade teacher. She continues to do well in school, and it's fun to be her parents at parent teacher conference. Her favorite books are The Little House on the Prairie series. (She's read every book at least 5 times!) So when she had to read a biography for this month's book report of course she chose Laura Ingalls Wilder! She dressed up in a pioneer dress and bonnet, presented all about Laura's life, and then had her classmates help her churn (shake) cream into butter which she served on bread. She honestly would love to be a pioneer girl!
Abby (5) also LOVES kindergarten. We were a little nervous about how she'd do leaving Mom, but there haven't been any issues. She took her favorite blanket with her for the first several weeks, but she's comfortable without it now. Abby is constantly creating notes and crafts for others. It's been fun to watch her writing improve and we get more and more variety in the words she knows how to spell.
Aaron (3) is growing up entirely too quickly! He started Sunbeams at church with the new year and does a great job sitting quietly in sharing time and is the best behaved child in the class (according to his teacher). But he's a real kid at home, and we are working on using words instead of fists when he disagrees with his sisters. :) Aaron learned his letters alongside Abby a year and a half ago and surprised me by writing his name quite legibly by himself a few days ago. He will definitely be ready for kindergarten in a year and a half even though he'll turn 5 just a few weeks before school starts.
